Good Fire for the Cosumnes River Watershed

The Cosumnes River Prescribed Burn Association is planning a prescribed burn and training on May 30-31, weather and conditions permitting, along Caldor Road. This community-based burn supports hazardous fuel reduction, watershed health, a community fuel break, and local prescribed fire training.

Final ignition will only occur when weather, smoke, staffing, equipment, and site conditions are within the approved prescription.

Location: Somerset, Caldor Rd

Burn Type: Understory Burn

Estimated Acres: 40 Acres

Burn Window: May 30-31, 2026

Expected Smoke Duration: From May 30-31, possible light smoke June 1-3
Expected Smoke Impacts: Impacts to Grizzly Flat and Omo Ranch are not expected. Smoke may settle overnight into the valleys in the Cosumnes watershed.

Smoke Notice

Smoke may be visible from nearby roads of Gizzly Flats Rd and Omo Ranch Rd, neighborhoods, and surrounding communities. Smoke production is expected during active burning and may linger overnight in low-lying areas, especially along the river corridor. Burn operations are coordinated with fire and air quality authorities.

✔ 24Hr staffing and patrol following fire, until cold.
✔ Burn plan and prescription approved by CalFire.
✔ Qualified burn bosses on site.
✔ Weather conditions continuously monitored.
✔ Equipment and water resources staged
✔ Post-burn monitoring completed
